Vietnam’s imports of pastry, sweets, and cereal products fall 46.15 percent in January

Vietnam’s imports of pastry, sweets, and cereal products decreased by 46.15 percent month-on-month in January, reaching US$40.5 million, according to Vietnam’s General Department of Customs. This follows a decline from US$75.22 million recorded in December.

Year-to-date, Vietnam’s total imports of these products stood at US$40.5 million. China remained the largest supplier, contributing US$13.32 million, or 32.9 percent of the total. Indonesia followed with US$7.56 million, representing 18.7 percent, while Thailand supplied US$4.28 million.

Among major suppliers, the Philippines recorded the highest month-on-month growth, increasing 109.23 percent. Belgium and the Netherlands also posted increases of 46.63 percent and 45.11 percent, respectively. In contrast, the USA experienced the steepest decline, with imports falling 73.47 percent, while Malaysia and Germany saw significant drops of 53.88 percent and 77.22 percent, respectively.

The industry continues to rely heavily on China, which accounted for nearly a third of Vietnam’s pastry, sweets, and cereal product imports. While the Philippines, Belgium, and the Netherlands showed growth, the overall decline from major suppliers signals a shift in sourcing patterns and potential changes in consumer demand.
