Vietnam’s imports of paper fall 26.09 percent in January

Vietnam’s imports of paper decreased by 26.09 percent month-on-month in January, reaching US$154.47 million, according to Vietnam’s General Department of Customs. This follows a decrease from US$209.01 million recorded in December.

Year-to-date, Vietnam’s total imports of paper stood at US$154.47 million. China remained the largest supplier, contributing US$65.12 million, or 42.2 percent of the total, followed by South Korea with US$19.82 million, representing 12.8 percent, and Indonesia with US$16.78 million.

Among major suppliers, the USA recorded the highest month-on-month growth, increasing by 9.76 percent. In contrast, Russia experienced the steepest decline, with imports falling 90.54 percent. Other suppliers such as Finland, India, and Malaysia also posted significant drops, with reductions of 40.14 percent, 44.28 percent, and 29.24 percent, respectively.

The paper import market in Vietnam continues to be dominated by China, which accounts for more than 40 percent of total imports. While the USA saw growth, most key suppliers experienced significant declines, reflecting changing trade dynamics and potentially weaker demand for paper products.
