Vietnam’s imports of fruits and vegetables declined by 21.15 percent month-on-month in January to US$239.91 million, according to Vietnam’s General Department of Customs. This follows a decrease from US$304.28 million recorded in December.
Year-to-date, Vietnam’s total fruit and vegetable imports stood at US$239.91 million. China remained the largest supplier, contributing US$88.26 million, or 36.78 percent of the total. The USA followed with US$72.09 million, representing 30.06 percent, while Australia supplied US$12.90 million.
Among major suppliers, New Zealand recorded the highest month-on-month growth, increasing 135.74 percent, followed by Laos at 164.37 percent and Chile at 1,184.67 percent. In contrast, Israel saw the steepest decline, with imports falling 68.01 percent. Thailand and Brazil also posted significant drops of 58.93 percent and 50.93 percent, respectively.
The industry remains heavily reliant on China and the USA, which together accounted for nearly two-thirds of Vietnam’s fruit and vegetable imports. While Chile, Laos, and New Zealand saw notable growth, most key suppliers experienced a decline, reflecting shifting trade patterns.
