Vietnam imported goods worth US$1.64 billion from Japan in November, a decline of 11.99 percent compared to October, according to Vietnam’s General Department of Customs. Year-to-date imports reached US$19.58 billion.
Computers, electrical products, and spare parts remained the largest import category but fell sharply by 26.45 percent to US$368.27 million. Machinery, equipment, tools, and instruments also dropped by 12.78 percent to US$342.59 million.
In contrast, iron and steel imports grew by 12.70 percent, reaching US$135.15 million, while imports of ferrous waste and scrap rose significantly by 31.06 percent to US$88.57 million. Plastic imports increased by 7.04 percent to US$48.46 million, showing stability amid broader declines.
Fabrics imports, however, declined by 13.15 percent to US$56.71 million, and parts and accessories of motor vehicles recorded a steep drop of 29.13 percent.
The overall decline highlights reduced demand for machinery and electronics, while growth in steel and waste imports underscores Vietnam’s industrial needs.
