Vietnam’s fuel output rises 4.9 percent year-on-year in March

Vietnam’s gasoline and oil production reached 1,494,600 tons in March, up from 1,405,800 tons in February. Total output for the first quarter stood at 4,304,500 tons, representing a 28.0 percent increase compared to March 2024 and a 4.9 percent rise year-on-year, according to data from the General Statistics Office.

Vietnam’s gasoline production plays a key role in meeting domestic demand for fuel and supporting industrial activities. The majority of the country’s gasoline and oil output is derived from local refineries, such as the Dung Quat Refinery and Nghi Son Refinery, which process crude oil into various petroleum products, including gasoline, diesel, and other refined fuels.

The production of gasoline and oil is essential for fueling Vietnam’s growing transportation, industrial, and energy sectors. Despite ongoing efforts to boost domestic production, Vietnam still relies on imports to meet its full fuel needs, particularly as demand continues to rise with economic development and increased vehicle ownership.

The country is also working to enhance its refining capacity and improve efficiency in its oil production sector. However, challenges such as fluctuating global oil prices, environmental concerns related to fossil fuels, and the need for sustainable energy alternatives remain key factors influencing future production and consumption.

With a focus on increasing refining capacity, expanding exploration efforts, and exploring cleaner energy solutions, Vietnam aims to balance the need for energy security with long-term sustainability goals.
