Vietnam’s fresh milk production estimated to reach 2.05 billion liters in 2024

Vietnam’s fresh milk production for December 2024 is projected to be 183.9 million liters, with an estimated total of 2.05 billion liters for the entire year, according to Vietnam’s General Office of Statistics. This represents a year-on-year increase of 2.7 percent compared to 2023, indicating steady growth in the dairy sector.

In November 2024, the country produced 176.7 million liters of fresh milk, maintaining a solid output despite a slight increase in December.

Vietnam’s fresh milk production has grown steadily over the years, supported by increasing domestic demand, government incentives, and investments from both local and foreign enterprises. Fresh milk is a key component of Vietnam’s expanding dairy industry, which caters to a growing population with rising incomes and a heightened focus on health and nutrition.

The industry is driven by large domestic players like Vinamilk and TH True Milk, which have invested heavily in modern dairy farms, advanced technologies, and herd development to boost milk production. Foreign companies such as FrieslandCampina and Nestlé also contribute significantly, both through local operations and partnerships. These companies have introduced advanced dairy farming practices, helping to improve yields and milk quality.

Despite growth, Vietnam’s fresh milk production still faces challenges. Domestic supply meets only a portion of demand, leading to continued reliance on imported milk powder and dairy products. The industry is also impacted by fluctuations in feed costs, land use constraints, and climate conditions.

To address these challenges, Vietnam has implemented policies to support the dairy sector, such as promoting investment in large-scale farms, improving livestock genetics, and enhancing supply chain efficiency. With ongoing efforts and rising consumer demand, fresh milk production in Vietnam is expected to continue growing, contributing to the country’s goal of reducing reliance on imports and achieving greater self-sufficiency in dairy products.
