Vietnam’s production of fertilisers and nitrogen compounds declined by 11.8 percent in December 2024 compared to November 2024, according to Vietnam’s Industrial Production Index.
Year-on-year, the sector decreased by 2.8 percent in December 2024 compared to December 2023. However, cumulative production for the full year of 2024 rose by 10.6 percent compared to 2023, highlighting robust annual growth despite the year-end dip.
The sharp monthly decline reflects seasonal adjustments or lower demand in December. The strong annual growth, however, indicates rising domestic and export demand for fertilisers, driven by expanding agricultural activities. The sector has also benefitted from stable production levels and modernisation efforts in fertiliser plants.
As a critical input for Vietnam’s agriculture sector, fertiliser production supports the nation’s food security and contributes significantly to its industrial output. Increased investments in efficient and environmentally friendly manufacturing processes have bolstered the sector’s competitiveness both domestically and in global markets.
The annual growth in 2024 underscores the vital role of fertilisers in Vietnam’s economy and the potential for further development.
