Vietnam’s electronics sector posts mixed production results in October

Vietnam’s electronics sector showed mixed monthly performance in October, with varying growth across its key segments, but recorded consistent annual increases, according to Vietnam’s industrial production index.

The production of electronic products, computers, and optical products grew by 2.8 percent from September 2024, while the year-over-year increase for October reached 4.1 percent. Cumulatively, production in this segment rose by 8.8 percent from January to October compared to the same period in 2023.

Similarly, electronic components manufacturing displayed a notable 7.4 percent rise from September 2024 and a 2.2 percent year-over-year increase for October. From January to October 2024, this segment grew by 9.1 percent, indicating a sustained upward trend aligned with the expanding electronics manufacturing base in Vietnam.

The communication equipment manufacturing segment also increased recording a 2.2 percent rise compared to September 2024, with a 4.4 percent rise year-over-year in October. Year-to-date, this segment was up by 8.6 percent, underscoring its importance in Vietnam’s export market as the country strengthens its position in global tech supply chains.

Conversely, consumer electronics production experienced a 2.1 percent decline from September but grew by 6.7 percent compared to October 2023, and a cumulative increase of 9.8 percent year-to-date. This suggests strong annual demand, possibly offset by short-term factors affecting monthly output.

Vietnam’s electronics industry is benefiting from increased global demand and a shift in supply chains favouring Southeast Asia. However, managing production consistency and addressing global supply chain challenges will be essential for sustaining growth across these segments.
