Vietnam’s education sector CPI shows mixed trends with high year-to-date growth

Vietnam’s consumer price index–CPI–for education in October presents a varied picture, with some segments experiencing minor monthly adjustments but overall showing significant year-to-date growth.

For the general education category, the CPI decreased by 0.54 percent compared to October 2023 and by 1.35 percent since December 2023, indicating a reduction in prices over the short term. From September to October, however, the CPI increased by 0.48 percent. The cumulative data from January to October  also reveals a substantial 6.68 percent increase in educational costs compared to the same period in 2023, driven by rising operational expenses in the education sector.

In educational services specifically, the CPI followed a similar trend. Compared to October 2023, the index declined by 0.77 percent and was down 1.67 percent from December 2023. The month-over-month change from September to October  saw a modest 0.53 percent increase. For the January-to-October period, educational services experienced a notable 7.11 percent increase year-to-date.

These trends highlight inflationary pressures within Vietnam’s education sector, where tuition and service costs have risen substantially, likely due to enhanced demand, infrastructure investments, and evolving curriculum standards.
