Vietnam’s crude oil extraction declines by 7.9% in February 2025

Vietnam’s crude oil extraction has experienced a minor dip in the first two months of 2025. According to the latest data from Vietnam’s General Office of Statistics, the country extracted 653,000 tons of crude oil in January 2025. In February, this figure decreased slightly to 610,000 tons.

The cumulative total for the first two months of the year reached 1.26 million tons. This represents a 7.9 percent decrease compared to the same period last year. Furthermore, the year-to-date figure reflects an 8.1 percent decrease when compared to the first two months of 2024, indicating a slight decline in the industry.

Vietnam’s crude oil extraction primarily occurs in the offshore oil fields of the Cuu Long Basin, which lies in the southern part of the country, as well as the Nam Con Son Basin. The largest oil fields in these areas, such as the Bach Ho and Dai Hung fields, contribute significantly to the nation’s crude oil production. Additionally, exploration activities continue in the areas of Block 06.1 and other offshore reserves, with the aim of maintaining and potentially increasing output in the future.
