Vietnam’s cotton imports rose significantly by 33.28 percent month-on-month in February, reaching US$300.99 million, according to Vietnam’s General Department of Customs. This increase brings total year-to-date imports to US$526.95 million.

Brazil remained the leading cotton supplier, accounting for 48.40 percent of total imports at US$145.69 million, a 32.73 percent increase from January. The USA followed with the most significant surge, rising 148.22 percent to US$103.70 million, making up 34.45 percent of total imports.

Meanwhile, Australia saw a 41.10 percent drop in cotton shipments to Vietnam, totaling US$21.62 million. India’s exports to Vietnam declined by 24.07 percent, reaching US$7.72 million, while Argentina saw an 81.88 percent increase to US$5.02 million.

The sharp increase in overall cotton imports reflects Vietnam’s rising demand for raw materials in its textile and garment industries.
