Vietnam’s coal imports rise by 5.98 percent in March 2025

Vietnam’s coal imports reached US$647.44 million in March 2025, representing a 5.98 percent increase from February. Year-to-date (YTD) coal imports totalled US$1.82 billion, according to Vietnam’s General Department of Customs.

Australia continued to be the largest supplier of coal, contributing US$234.79 million to Vietnam’s imports in March, a 4.76 percent increase compared to the previous month. However, imports from Indonesia, which accounted for 31.86 percent of total coal imports, saw a slight decrease of 1.57 percent. On the other hand, Laos experienced a significant surge of 64.13 percent in coal exports to Vietnam, totalling US$25.2 million. Imports from China dropped sharply by 52 percent, while Russia’s exports declined by 8.94 percent.
