The travel and tourism sector in Vietnam experienced a downturn in October, reflecting possible seasonal changes or reduced consumer spending in this category, according to Vietnam’s Ministry of Industry and Trade data.
In September, retail sales for travel and tourism were VND 5.26 trillion, equivalent to US$0.21 billion. By October, this figure declined to VND 4.90 trillion, or US$0.19 billion, representing a month-on-month decrease of 6.79 percent.
Year-to-date, retail sales in this sector amounted to VND 44.01 trillion, or US$2 billion. While the overall performance remains steady, the October drop highlights challenges in maintaining growth momentum in travel and tourism services.
This decline points to the sector’s vulnerability to seasonal and economic fluctuations, emphasising the need for strategies to sustain demand and strengthen its contribution to Vietnam’s retail economy.
