Post and telecommunication costs in Vietnam decreased by 0.61 percent in December 2024 compared to December 2023, according to Consumer Price Index (CPI). Month-on-month, prices fell by 0.03 percent from November 2024.
For the full year 2024, costs decreased by 1.02 percent compared to 2023, reflecting continued downward trends in telecommunications prices.
The CPI for Vietnam’s post and telecommunication sector tracks the price changes in services such as postal delivery, courier services, mobile telecommunications, internet, and related technologies. This sector has shown relatively stable or declining CPI trends in recent years, primarily due to advancements in technology, market liberalisation, and intense competition among service providers.
In the telecommunications segment, the CPI has been influenced by the widespread adoption of digital technologies, the expansion of 4G and 5G networks, and declining costs of mobile data and voice services. Service providers have introduced competitive pricing models and bundled packages, which have driven down costs for consumers. Additionally, the increasing use of internet-based communication services, such as VoIP and messaging apps, has reduced reliance on traditional telecommunication services, further moderating price pressures.
In the postal and courier segment, while traditional mail services have declined due to digitalisation, the growth of e-commerce has led to increased demand for courier and parcel delivery services. This shift has occasionally caused upward pressure on prices, particularly during peak periods, but overall competition in the logistics market has kept CPI increases moderate.
As Vietnam continues its digital transformation and adopts newer communication technologies, the post and telecommunication sector is expected to maintain stable or declining CPI trends, reflecting improvements in efficiency and affordability.
