Vietnam Market Wrap: Foreign outflows weigh, but VN-Index holds firm with 1.45% gain

Vietnam’s stock market shrugged off foreign investor selling on Tuesday, with the VN-Index climbing 18.86 points to close at 1,315.15, marking a solid 1.45 percent advance, according to data from the Ho Chi Minh City Stock Exchange.

Total trading value on the Ho Chi Minh Stock Exchange (HoSE) topped VND 22.93 trillion, underscoring continued domestic buying strength.

Despite the upbeat session, foreign investors turned net sellers, offloading US$122.5 million worth of equities while buying just US$102.3 million, resulting in a net outflow of US$20.2 million.

It was a familiar theme: strong domestic demand holding the line while overseas capital moved cautiously to the sidelines.

Among the stocks foreign investors favoured were:

  • Military Commercial Joint Stock Bank (MBB), closing at VND 24,850, up 1.02 percent
  • Asia Commercial Bank (ACB), closing at VND 25,600, up 0.79 percent
  • VN Diamond ETF (FUEVFVND), closing at VND 32,110, up 0.56 percent

These stocks saw notable net inflows. MBB alone attracted over VND 3.1 trillion in foreign buy orders, reflecting its continued appeal amid banking sector optimism. Meanwhile, ETF-linked FUEVFVND also gained ground, highlighting passive fund interest in Vietnamese large caps.

But the flipside told a different story. Major real estate and financial names like:

  • Vinhomes (VHM), closing at VND 62,900,
  • Saigon-Hanoi Commercial Joint Stock Bank (SHB), closing at VND 13,350,
  • Novaland (NVL), closing at VND 11,850,

were aggressively sold. SHB, in particular, faced sharp foreign divestment despite muted price movement, possibly reflecting positioning ahead of index rebalancing or a broader risk reallocation.

In the broader market, liquidity remains healthy, sentiment remains upbeat, and domestic retail flows appear undeterred by foreign activity.

Still, with outflows gathering pace and global uncertainties lingering, investors will be watching closely to see whether this resilience can hold.
