Vietnam’s automotive industry

Vietnam’s automotive industry has expanded steadily over the past decade, driven by rising incomes, urbanisation, and supportive industrial policy.

Domestic assembly dominates the market, with global manufacturers operating joint ventures alongside emerging local brands.

Production remains focused on assembly rather than deep localisation, with many components still imported despite government incentives to develop supporting industries.

Export activity is growing but remains modest compared to regional manufacturing hubs such as Thailand and Indonesia.
