Vietnam’s imports of textile, leather, and footwear materials and auxiliaries reached US$637.42 million in May 2025, according to figures released by Vietnam’s General Department of Customs. This represents a slight decrease of 0.86 percent compared to April, bringing the year-to-date (YTD) import value to US$2.98 billion.
China remains the dominant supplier, but experiences a notable decline:
China continued to be the primary source for these imports, with a May value of US$368.11 million. This signifies an 8.72 percent decrease from April, though China still accounts for a commanding 58.57 percent of the total year-to-date imports.
South Korea, USA, Italy, and Japan show strong growth:
Conversely, imports from South Korea surged by 15.70 percent to US$46.61 million in May. The USA also recorded a significant increase of 27.61 percent. Italy’s imports grew by 17.06 percent, and Japan’s by 17.71 percent.
Extraordinary month-on-month surges from various markets:
Several countries exhibited remarkable month-on-month growth in May, often from lower bases:
- Netherlands recorded an astonishing surge of 167.29 percent, reaching US$320,768.
- Singapore imports jumped by 130.75 percent.
- Canada imports surged by 91.78 percent.
- Bangladesh imports grew by 79.70 percent.
- Indonesia imports increased by 44.33 percent.
- The “Other” category also saw a significant increase of 44.40 percent.
Notable declines in imports:
Conversely, some markets faced substantial declines in imports in May:
- Brazil saw the largest drop of 28.22 percent.
- Poland imports decreased by 27.31 percent.
- UK imports fell by 25.05 percent.
- Hong Kong imports decreased by 24.83 percent.
- Austria imports decreased by 24.47 percent.
- India also experienced a notable decrease of 13.44 percent.
The overall slight decrease in May’s imports of textile, leather, and footwear materials and auxiliaries suggests a minor adjustment in demand, with China’s decline impacting the overall figures despite strong growth from various other global suppliers.
