Manufacturing: Vietnam glass & glassware exports dip 2.68% in May

Vietnam’s exports of glass and glassware reached US$108.09 million in May 2025, according to figures released by Vietnam’s General Department of Customs. This represents a slight decrease of 2.68 percent compared to April, bringing the year-to-date (YTD) export value to US$524.34 million.

Singapore and USA remain top markets; USA sees growth, Singapore declines:

Singapore continued to be the largest market, with May exports totaling US$43.69 million, though this was an 8.86 percent decrease from April. Despite this dip, Singapore still accounts for a significant 46.85 percent of YTD exports. The USA saw a modest increase of 1.54 percent to US$37.78 million, maintaining its position as the second-largest market.

Taiwan, Japan, and Thailand show strong month-on-month growth:

In contrast to the overall slight downturn, several markets demonstrated remarkable month-on-month growth in May:

  • Taiwan exports surged by an impressive 120.30 percent, more than doubling its imports from Vietnam.
  • Japan saw a strong increase of 22.81 percent.
  • Thailand exports jumped by 17.61 percent.
  • China exports grew by 15.30 percent.
  • Canada also recorded a healthy increase of 14.27 percent.

Cambodia experiences significant decline:

Conversely, Cambodia experienced a substantial decrease of 44.23 percent in May, falling to US$325,050. The “Other” category also saw a decline of 2.78 percent.

The May data for Vietnam’s glass and glassware exports presents a mixed picture. While overall exports experienced a slight dip, the robust growth in key markets like Taiwan, Japan, and Thailand suggests diversifying demand and potential for expansion in these regions, even as the largest market, Singapore, saw a decrease.
