Vietnam’s fabric imports increased 12.3 percent month-on-month in September 2025, reaching an estimated US$1.31 billion, according to data from Vietnam’s General Department of Customs.
China remained Vietnam’s largest supplier, accounting for the majority of shipments, followed by Taiwan, South Korea, and Japan.
Imports from South Korea surged 25.4 percent month-on-month, while those from Malaysia rose 23.5 percent and Pakistan 28.8 percent.
By contrast, shipments from Italy and Germany declined sharply, down 35.9 percent and 50.7 percent respectively.
Smaller suppliers, including Cambodia, Hong Kong, and Belgium, recorded significant month-on-month gains too.
In the first nine months of 2025, total fabric imports reached roughly US$11.23 billion, reflecting Vietnam’s ongoing demand from its garment and textile manufacturing sector.
Vietnam’s fabric industry underpins the country’s large textile and garment manufacturing base, which supplies major global brands across the US, EU, and Asia.
The sector relies heavily on imported raw materials, with China, South Korea, and Taiwan as key fabric suppliers.
Domestic fabric production remains limited, though investment in dyeing and finishing facilities has been rising to strengthen local supply chains.
As Vietnam moves up the value chain, fabric producers are adopting modern technology and sustainability standards to meet international requirements.
