The UK’s Commercial Court has granted anti-suit injunctions to banks BNP Paribas and Natixis against Vietjet with respect to court proceedings Vietjet had intended to pursue in Vietnam. The banks had previously held lease agreements with the airline with respect to several aircraft, lease agreements Vietjet defaulted on. The banks had pursued, and been awarded the injunctions, on the grounds that the agreements with Vietjet specifically assigned the UK courts jurisdiction over any dispute between the parties.

With this in mind, the National Assembly has effectively given the government permission to issue several thousand billion dong worth of shares to itself. It’s not clear, however, if the National Assembly will give the government permission to buy said shares.

BBC Vietnamese, for example, has comments from Tran Quoc Viet, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Region 1 Railway Services Joint Stock Company, who essentially suggests it is all moving very fast and points out there is a dearth of high-speed rail expertise in Vietnam to properly assess the project. On that note, Radio Free Asia points out that the pre-feasibility study for the project was conducted by a consortium of local firms.
Road to second airport for Vietnam’s HCMC delayed amid land acquisition issues
Bao Giao Thong says this is because on one road 40 percent of the land is defense land though it doesn’t explain why this would cause abnormal delays. It also notes that Tan Binh District needs to hand over land belonging to 68 households before December 28 for a second road if it is to be completed by February 28 next year. It’s not clear if there is a delay here or if a delay is expected.
Vietnam’s transportation exports surge in October, growth steady year-to-date
Year-to-date performance remains solid. From January to October, the sector’s exports totalled US$12.52 billion, a 5.9 percent increase compared to the same period in 2023.
VinFast is set to start work on a new 300,000 unit capacity factory in Ha Tinh
This will effectively double VinFast’s production capacity in Vietnam to 600,000 units with its Hai Phong factory reportedly capable of producing 300,000 units a year too. Notably, year-to-date VinFast has sold just 51,000 units, many of which it sold to affiliated company, Xanh GSM. With this in mind, it’s not clear what the business case for a new factory in Ha Tinh might be.
