Vietnam welcomed 5,713 tourists from Sweden in December, an increase of 2,337 visitors compared to November, marking a significant month-on-month growth of 69.22 percent, according to Vietnam’s General Department of Tourism. Swedish arrivals reached 34,267 in 2024, reflecting a 33 percent year-on-year growth.
Swedish tourists are drawn to Vietnam’s mix of cultural heritage and natural beauty. Popular destinations include Hanoi, Hoi An, and Ho Chi Minh City, which offer rich historical landmarks, vibrant local markets, and a thriving culinary scene. Additionally, the scenic Halong Bay and beaches in Phu Quoc and Da Nang remain favourites for leisure and relaxation.
Swedish visitors often seek eco-tourism and adventure activities, such as trekking in Sapa, exploring rural villages, and cruising the Mekong Delta. Culinary tourism also appeals to Swedish travellers, who enjoy Vietnam’s fresh and diverse cuisine.
While there are no direct flights between Sweden and Vietnam, airlines such as Qatar Airways, Emirates, and Turkish Airlines offer connecting routes through hubs like Doha and Istanbul, providing convenient travel options. The December growth may be attributed to the holiday season and increased interest in tropical destinations during Sweden’s winter.
The robust annual growth highlights Vietnam’s appeal as a long-haul destination for Swedish tourists, driven by affordability, cultural richness, and a variety of travel experiences.
