Stock market: Vietnam’s VN-Index down 4.06 points as foreign traders net-sell US$53.64 million, Tuesday

Vietnam’s stock market closed slightly lower on 14 October, with the VN-Index easing 0.23 percent to 1,761.06 points despite gains in select blue-chip counters, according to the latest data from the Ho Chi Minh City Stock Exchangeview source.

Total market turnover reached VND 52.42 trillion, or about US$1.99 billion.

The VN30 Index, which tracks large-cap stocks, rose 0.07 percent to 2,013.69 points, supported by strength in the industrial (VNIND, up 1.83 percent) and real estate (VNREAL, up 1.59 percent) sectors.

However, declines in small- and mid-cap stocks weighed on overall sentiment, with the VNMIDCAP down 0.27 percent and the VNSMALLCAP falling 1.31 percent.

Sector performance was mixed.

The construction (VNCONS) and energy (VNENE) indices fell 2.05 percent and 1.52 percent, respectively, while materials (VNMAT) and information technology (VNIT) each lost more than 1.6 percent.

In contrast, industrials and real estate provided modest support to the broader market.

Investor focus remained on large financial names, with VNFIN down 0.57 percent and VNFINLEAD off 0.30 percent.

Most traded

Trading on 14 October was led by VIX Securities (VIX), which climbed 4.27 percent to VND 39,100, with turnover reaching VND 2.99 trillion (US$115.0 million).

Hoa Phat Group (HPG) was the second most active, falling 2.24 percent to VND 28,350 on VND 2.42 trillion (US$93.1 million) in trades.
SSI Securities (SSI) slipped 0.85 percent to VND 41,000, posting VND 2.76 trillion (US$106.1 million) in value.

Saigon – Hanoi Commercial Joint Stock Bank (SHB) edged down 0.55 percent to VND 18,000, with VND 2.23 trillion (US$84.7 million) traded.

Meanwhile, VPBank (VPB) rose 2.52 percent to VND 32,500, recording VND 1.85 trillion (US$70.8 million) in transactions.

Foreign trading

Foreign investors turned net sellers on Vietnam’s stock market on 14 October, offloading shares worth VND 5.65 trillion (US$213.86 million) while buying VND 4.23 trillion (US$160.23 million).

This resulted in a net outflow of VND 1.42 trillion, equivalent to US$53.64 million, marking a shift toward selling after recent mixed sessions.

Most bought by foreign traders

Foreign investors showed selective buying on 14 October, led by VPBank (VPB), which gained 1.88 percent to VND 32,500, with a net purchase of 1.18 million shares.

Vinhomes (VHM) attracted strong inflows, rising 2.01 percent to VND 127,000 as foreigners net bought 2.77 million shares, marking it the top net buy of the session.

VIX Securities (VIX) also saw steady interest, climbing 2.36 percent to VND 39,100, with a net gain of 2.45 million shares purchased.

Meanwhile, heavy selling hit Vincom Retail (VRE) and Masan Group (MSN), which fell 3.06 percent and 3.62 percent respectively, as foreign investors net sold 5.05 million and 1.38 million shares.

Most sold by foreign traders

Foreign investors were strong net sellers on 14 October, led by Hoa Phat Group (HPG), which dropped 2.41 percent to VND 28,350 after 6.68 million shares were sold net.

SSI Securities (SSI) also faced pressure, falling 3.19 percent to VND 41,000 with a net foreign sell of 6.43 million shares.

Real estate developer Dat Xanh Group (DXG) slid 4.43 percent to VND 20,500, as foreign outflows reached 6.16 million shares.

Vincom Retail (VRE) and HDBank (HDB) were also in the top sold list, recording net sales of 5.05 million and 5.74 million shares respectively, both closing lower for the day.

Selling was concentrated across steel, banking, and real estate stocks, contributing to the overall foreign net outflow of US$53.6 million, reinforcing cautious sentiment in large-cap sectors.
