Vietnam’s imports of soybeans reached an impressive US$110.91 million in May 2025, according to figures released by Vietnam’s General Department of Customs. This represents a near-doubling of imports with a significant increase of 97.16 percent compared to April, bringing the year-to-date (YTD) import value to US$428.98 million.
Brazil becomes the dominant supplier with explosive growth:
Brazil emerged as the primary source for soybean imports in May, with its value surging by 154.88 percent to US$79.19 million. This phenomenal growth positions Brazil as a key player, accounting for 39.08 percent of the YTD total.
Canada and Cambodia also show remarkable increases:
Canada experienced an extraordinary surge of 482.51 percent, with imports reaching US$11.67 million. Cambodia also saw a substantial increase of 148.67 percent.
Argentina emerges as a new major supplier:
Notably, Argentina, which had no recorded imports in April, became a significant supplier in May with imports valued at US$10.47 million, accounting for 2.44 percent of the YTD total.
USA sees a decline, while “Other” also decreases:
Conversely, imports from the USA, a major YTD contributor at 48.01 percent, decreased by 15.27 percent to US$19.08 million in May. The “Other” category also saw a decline of 64.74 percent.
The overall dramatic increase in May’s soybean imports suggests a strong and rapidly growing demand in Vietnam, with Brazil taking a leading role and new suppliers like Argentina entering the market, amidst a decline from the USA.
