Vietnam imported US$88.53 million worth of precious stones, precious metal and articles thereof in August, down 9.7 percent from US$98.04 million in July, according to Vietnam’s General Department of Customs.
Year-to-date imports reached US$645.73 million.
China remained the largest supplier at US$22.93 million, though down 21.9 percent month-on-month, followed by Hong Kong with US$12.54 million, up 4.2 percent.
South Korea ranked third at US$11.55 million, rising 11.3 percent from July.
Imports from India dropped sharply to US$3.98 million, while Belgium and Thailand rose strongly to US$3.65 million and US$3.86 million respectively.
Switzerland contributed US$3.46 million, and Japan supplied US$5.16 million, down 20.6 percent.
