China maintains its leading position with continued growth:

China remained the primary source for plastics imports, with a May value of US$350.17 million. This signifies a 6.60 percent increase from April and accounts for a dominant 29.67 percent of the total year-to-date imports.

South Korea and Taiwan also show steady contributions:

Imports from South Korea increased by 2.62 percent to US$186.05 million in May, while Taiwan’s imports grew by 2.05 percent to US$99.87 million. These countries respectively contributed 17.68 percent and 9.96 percent to the YTD total.

Significant month-on-month surges from various markets:

Several countries exhibited remarkable month-on-month growth in May, often from lower bases:

  • Australia recorded an astonishing surge of 145.39 percent, albeit from a low base.
  • India imports jumped by 64.36 percent.
  • Netherlands imports surged by 47.92 percent.
  • Indonesia imports grew by 43.58 percent.
  • Belgium imports increased by 15.68 percent.
  • Kuwait also showed a strong increase of 13.63 percent.

The overall modest increase in May’s plastics imports suggests a stable but fluctuating market in Vietnam, with China as the leading supplier and dynamic shifts among other global partners.
