Vietnam’s exports of machine, equipment, tools, and instruments reached US$4.999 billion in May 2025, according to figures released by Vietnam’s General Department of Customs. This represents an increase of 6.12 percent compared to April, bringing the year-to-date (YTD) export value to US$22.085 billion.
USA remains dominant market; China and Canada show strong growth:
The USA continued to be the largest market, with exports totaling US$2.109 billion in May, a 10.47 percent increase from April, and accounting for a significant 41.96 percent of YTD exports. China saw a substantial surge of 39.64 percent, reaching US$597.48 million. Canada also demonstrated robust growth of 41.11 percent.
Belgium, Norway, and Tanzania record explosive month-on-month growth:
Several markets experienced remarkable month-on-month growth in May:
- Belgium recorded an astounding surge of 417.93 percent, reaching US$59.43 million.
- Norway exports jumped by 413.81 percent.
- Tanzania saw an impressive 104.91 percent increase.
- Mozambique exports rose by 345.77 percent.
- Argentina exports grew by 88.40 percent.
- Hungary showed a significant increase of 43.97 percent.
India, UAE, Italy, and Nordic countries face substantial declines:
Conversely, a number of markets experienced significant decreases in May:
- Finland saw the largest drop of 71.75 percent.
- UAE exports plummeted by 31.91 percent.
- India decreased by 28.96 percent.
- Italy exports fell by 21.90 percent.
- Other notable declines were observed in Hong Kong, Netherlands, Germany, Taiwan, Poland, Mexico, Czech Republic, Australia, Philippines, Spain, Saudi Arabia, Laos, Sweden, Romania, New Zealand, Denmark, Egypt, Switzerland, Bangladesh, Armenia, Pakistan, Belarus, Brunei Darussalam, and Kyrgyzstan.
The May data for Vietnam’s machine, equipment, tools, and instruments exports indicates a strong overall growth, driven by key markets like the USA and China, and remarkable surges in a diverse range of smaller markets, despite significant declines in some traditional export destinations. This highlights Vietnam’s expanding footprint in the global machinery trade.
