Phones imported by Vietnam top US$1.21 billions in September 2025, China and South Korea top suppliers

Vietnam’s imports of telephones, mobile phones, and parts rose 8.9 percent month-on-month to US$1.21 billion in September 2025, according to Vietnam’s General Department of Customs.

Year-to-date imports reached US$8.19 billion.

China remained Vietnam’s dominant supplier with US$1.01 billion, up 7.9 percent from August.

South Korea ranked second at US$34.6 million, down 18 percent, while Taiwan surged 94.4 percent to US$7.1 million.

Imports from India jumped sharply by 455 percent to US$2.3 million, while shipments from Japan and the UK both declined over 30 percent.

Vietnam’s telephone and mobile phone industry plays a central role in the country’s manufacturing and export structure, driven by major foreign investors such as Samsung, Apple suppliers, and other electronics assemblers.

The sector contributes significantly to industrial output and trade, with a large portion of production destined for export while components and parts are heavily imported from China, South Korea, and Taiwan.

As global technology supply chains evolve, Vietnam continues to position itself as a key assembly hub for mobile devices and components.

The industry benefits from government incentives, competitive labour costs, and expanding infrastructure, though it remains sensitive to shifts in global demand, input prices, and trade policies affecting electronics manufacturing across Asia.

Of note, Vietnam produced 15.7 million mobile phones in August 2025, up 5.3 percent year-on-year.

Total production for January–August also reached 124.3 million units, up 1.9 percent compared with the same period in 2024.
