Electronics: Vietnam phone imports up 20.22 percent in August, led by China and South Korea

Vietnam’s imports of telephones, mobile phones, and parts climbed to US$1.11 billion in August, a 20.22 percent increase from July, according to Vietnam’s General Department of Customs.

Year-to-date imports reached US$6.99 billion.

China dominated with US$933.70 million, up 22.49 percent, accounting for nearly 87 percent of total imports.

South Korea was the second-largest supplier at US$42.26 million, though down 20 percent.

Taiwan contributed US$3.65 million, down 7.98 percent, while Japan rose sharply to US$0.55 million.

Imports from smaller partners remained negligible.

India shipped US$0.41 million, the UK US$0.15 million, while Hong Kong dropped to zero after July shipments. The US recorded no phone imports in August.

The figures highlight Vietnam’s overwhelming reliance on China for phone imports, with South Korea a distant second and all other partners marginal.
