Vietnam recorded 31,807 tourist arrivals from the Philippines in December, a decrease of 1,346 visitors compared to November, reflecting a month-on-month decline of 4.06 percent, according to Vietnam’s General Department of Tourism. However, for 2024 arrivals reached 265,947, representing an impressive 73.6 percent year-on-year growth.
Filipino travellers are attracted to Vietnam for its cultural and historical sites, such as Hanoi’s Old Quarter, the Cu Chi Tunnels, and Hoi An Ancient Town. Beach destinations like Da Nang and Phu Quoc also appeal to leisure tourists, while Ho Chi Minh City is a popular choice for shopping and dining experiences.
Short-haul trips are the norm for Filipino tourists, with many opting for affordable group tours or family vacations. Increasingly, young Filipino travellers are exploring Vietnam independently, favouring local food tours, urban nightlife, and adventure activities like motorbike tours and trekking.
Direct flights between Manila and major Vietnamese cities, operated by airlines such as Philippine Airlines, Cebu Pacific, and Vietnam Airlines, ensure seamless travel. Improved connectivity and visa-free entry for ASEAN nationals have contributed to the steady rise in Filipino arrivals throughout the year.
Despite December’s slight dip, the strong year-on-year growth underscores Vietnam’s growing popularity among Filipino travellers, driven by its affordability, proximity, and diverse offerings.
