Vietnam welcomed 4,278 tourists from New Zealand in December, an increase of 116 visitors compared to November, reflecting a modest month-on-month growth of 2.79 percent, according to Vietnam’s General Department of Tourism. New Zealand arrivals reached 47,963 in 2024, marking a 42.2 percent year-on-year increase.
Of note, New Zealand tourists often prefer longer trips, allowing time to explore multiple regions. Activities like trekking in Sapa, visiting the Mekong Delta, and enjoying Vietnam’s unique cuisine are among the most popular. The growing interest in eco-tourism and off-the-beaten-path destinations also aligns with New Zealanders’ travel preferences.
Although there are no direct flights between New Zealand and Vietnam, airlines such as Air New Zealand, Vietnam Airlines, and Singapore Airlines offer convenient connecting routes via hubs like Singapore and Bangkok. The December growth reflects sustained interest in Vietnam as a long-haul destination, particularly during the Southern Hemisphere’s summer season.
With strong annual growth, Vietnam continues to attract New Zealanders seeking a mix of adventure, relaxation, and cultural exploration.
