Vietnam’s motor vehicle imports reached US$422.93 million in April 2025, according to figures released by Vietnam’s General Department of Customs. This represents a decrease of 4.98 percent compared to March, with a year-to-date (YTD) import value of US$1.40 billion.
Thailand remains the top supplier despite a slight decrease:
Thailand was the leading supplier of motor vehicles to Vietnam in April, with imports valued at US$152.10 million. This marks a 2.41 percent decrease from March but still accounts for a significant 33.23 percent of the total year-to-date imports.
China sees an increase to become a major supplier:
China was the second-largest supplier in April, with imports valued at US$147.09 million, a 7.97 percent increase from the previous month. China accounts for 32.23 percent of the year-to-date imports.
Indonesia experiences a substantial decrease:
Imports from Indonesia saw a significant decrease of 36.91 percent in April, falling to US$77.81 million. Indonesia accounts for 24.04 percent of the year-to-date imports.
USA records a significant increase:
Imports from the USA experienced a substantial surge of 181.62 percent in April, reaching US$4.26 million. The USA accounts for 0.41 percent of the year-to-date imports.
Significant month-on-month increases and decreases:
The USA experienced the largest month-on-month increase at 181.62 percent. Conversely, South Korea experienced the most significant decrease at 93.44 percent, with imports falling to US$0.03 million in April. Russia also saw a notable decrease, and imports from Austria resumed in April after being absent in March.
