Vietnam’s exports of ores and other minerals product reached US$12.90 million in May 2025, according to figures released by Vietnam’s General Department of Customs. This marks a significant decrease of 51.66 percent compared to April, bringing the year-to-date (YTD) export value to US$84.79 million.
China experiences sharpest decline; South Korea and Taiwan show explosive growth:
The most significant factor in May’s sharp overall drop was the massive decline in exports to China, which plummeted by 85.91 percent to US$1.997 million. China remains the top YTD market, accounting for 43.27 percent, but this monthly drop is substantial.
Conversely, some markets showed remarkable month-on-month growth:
- South Korea recorded an astounding surge of 561.47 percent, albeit from a lower base, reaching US$978,493.
- Taiwan exports more than doubled, jumping by 119.27 percent to US$1.519 million.
Japan, Malaysia, and Indonesia also see declines:
Other key markets also experienced decreases in May:
- Japan saw a decline of 14.57 percent.
- Malaysia exports fell by 30.25 percent.
- Indonesia decreased by 39.34 percent.
- Notably, there were no exports to Thailand in May, after small exports in April.
- The “Other” category also experienced a significant decline of 33.21 percent.
The May data for Vietnam’s ores and other minerals product exports presents a challenging picture with a significant overall decline, largely driven by the sharp reduction in exports to China. However, the explosive growth seen in South Korea and Taiwan indicates shifting market dynamics and potential for diversification in this sector.
