Vietnam’s imports of machinery, equipment, tools, and instruments reached US$4.93 billion in April 2025, according to figures released by Vietnam’s General Department of Customs. This represents a marginal 1.76 percent increase compared to the import value in March, with a year-to-date import value of US$17.58 billion for this category.
China remains the overwhelming leader in machinery imports:
China was the dominant supplier in April, with imports valued at US$3.23 billion. This marks a 4.97 percent increase from March and accounts for a commanding 62.61 percent of the total year-to-date imports.
Japan and South Korea remain key suppliers with slight decreases:
Japan was the second-largest supplier in April, with imports valued at US$442.40 million, a decrease of 8.83 percent from the previous month. Japan accounts for 9.51 percent of the year-to-date imports. South Korea followed closely with imports of US$361.98 million, a slight decrease of 0.66 percent, representing 8.31 percent of the YTD figure.
Taiwan and Germany maintain significant positions:
Taiwan supplied US$132.02 million in April, an increase of 3.79 percent from March, accounting for 2.66 percent of the YTD. Germany’s imports reached US$108.74 million, a decrease of 13.82 percent, representing 2.48 percent of the year-to-date total.
USA sees an increase:
Imports from the USA saw an increase of 8.54 percent in April, reaching US$101.50 million, contributing 1.95 percent to the year-to-date total.
Significant month-on-month increases and decreases:
UAE experienced the largest month-on-month increase at 1150.69 percent, although its overall import value is lower. Lithuania also saw a substantial rise of 313.65 percent, and Australia recorded an increase of 86.90 percent. Conversely, Sweden experienced the most significant decrease at 59.89 percent, followed by Belgium at 68.74 percent and Norway at 67.80 percent. Imports from Armenia ceased entirely in April.
