Korean tourist arrivals to Vietnam surge in December with 9 percent growth

In December, Vietnam welcomed 435,069 tourists from Korea, a significant month-on-month increase of 35,919 visitors, representing a growth rate of 9 percent compared to November, according to Vietnam’s General Department of Tourism. Arrivals from Korea for 2024 reached 4,568,941, marking a 27.1 percent increase compared to the previous year.

Korean visitors to Vietnam are known for their preference for beach destinations such as Da Nang, Nha Trang, and Phu Quoc, which cater to their love of luxury resorts and water activities. Additionally, cultural experiences in Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, and Hoi An continue to attract Korean travellers, along with an increasing interest in wellness tourism, including spa and relaxation packages.

Shopping and dining are key components of Korean tourists’ itineraries, with many drawn to Vietnamese street food, such as pho and banh mi, as well as coffee culture. Younger travellers are particularly keen on eco-tourism and adventure activities, exploring Vietnam’s natural landscapes and national parks.

The growth in December arrivals aligns with a broader trend of increased outbound travel by Koreans, facilitated by strong air connectivity. Major airlines like Vietnam Airlines, Korean Air, and Asiana Airlines offer frequent direct flights between the two countries, making travel convenient.

As Vietnam remains one of the top destinations for Korean tourists in Southeast Asia, the country’s tourism sector is likely to benefit further from this growing market, supported by targeted promotions and enhanced travel experiences.
