Italian tourist arrivals to Vietnam drop by 23.34 percent in December despite strong annual growth

Vietnam welcomed 8,220 tourists from Italy in December, a decrease of 2,503 visitors compared to November, reflecting a month-on-month decline of 23.34 percent, according to Vietnam’s General Department of Tourism. Despite the drop, 2024 arrivals from Italy reached 88,912 in 2024, marking 55.8 percent year-on-year growth.

Italian travellers are drawn to Vietnam for its rich cultural heritage and diverse landscapes. Popular destinations include Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, and the ancient town of Hoi An, as well as natural attractions like Halong Bay and Sapa. Beach resorts in Da Nang and Phu Quoc also attract Italian tourists seeking relaxation and luxury.

Italian visitors typically enjoy cultural and culinary experiences, with a focus on authentic Vietnamese food, historical landmarks, and immersive tours. Many also participate in eco-tourism activities, such as trekking and exploring rural villages, making Vietnam a favoured destination for adventure and cultural exploration.

While there are no direct flights between Italy and Vietnam, airlines like Qatar Airways, Emirates, and Turkish Airlines provide convenient connections via hubs in Doha, Dubai, and Istanbul. Seasonal shifts in travel behaviour may explain the December decline, but Vietnam remains a growing destination for Italian tourists.

The significant year-on-year growth underscores Vietnam’s increasing appeal in the European market, supported by targeted promotional efforts and improved travel infrastructure.
