Indian tourist arrivals in Vietnam see slight annual growth in January

Vietnam welcomed 48,536 tourists from India in January, accounting for 2.3 percent of total international arrivals, according to Vietnam’s General Department of Tourism. This reflects a 13 percent decline from December but a 5.2 percent increase year-on-year.

Tourism between India and Vietnam has seen steady growth over the years, with both countries becoming increasingly popular travel destinations for each other’s citizens. The growing cultural, historical, and economic ties between India and Vietnam have contributed to this increase in tourism, driven by both leisure and business travel.

For Indian tourists, Vietnam offers a diverse range of attractions, including its beautiful natural landscapes, historical sites, and rich cultural heritage. Popular destinations like Ha Long Bay, Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, and the ancient town of Hoi An have become top choices for Indian travelers. Additionally, Vietnam’s affordable travel options, vibrant cuisine, and historical connections to India—such as the presence of Indian culture and architecture in various regions—further enhance its appeal to Indian tourists.

On the other hand, Vietnam is emerging as an increasingly popular destination for Indian travelers due to its proximity, growing economy, and unique tourism offerings. With improved flight connectivity between major Indian cities like New Delhi, Mumbai, and Chennai and Vietnamese cities, it has become easier for Indian tourists to visit. Vietnam’s appeal to Indian tourists includes its vibrant urban culture, beautiful beaches, and historical landmarks, as well as opportunities for business, conferences, and educational exchanges.

The Indian government has worked to promote travel to Vietnam, and similarly, Vietnam has targeted Indian tourists through marketing campaigns and by simplifying visa processes. Both governments have also cooperated in tourism promotion through trade fairs and other initiatives, aiming to enhance bilateral tourism. As both economies continue to grow and tourism infrastructure improves, travel between India and Vietnam is expected to increase, fostering deeper people-to-people connections and boosting economic and cultural ties between the two nations.
