Vietnam welcomed 24,290 tourists from France in December, a decrease of 8,737 visitors compared to November, representing a significant month-on-month decline of 26.45 percent, according to Vietnam’s General Department of Tourism. However, arrivals for 2024 reached 278,943 arrivals, reflecting a 29.4 percent increase compared to the previous year.
French tourists are drawn to Vietnam’s diverse offerings, including cultural and historical landmarks such as Hanoi’s Old Quarter, Hue’s Imperial City, and Hoi An’s Ancient Town. They also enjoy exploring natural attractions like Halong Bay, Sapa, and the Mekong Delta. Beach destinations such as Phu Quoc and Da Nang remain popular for leisure-focused travellers.
French visitors often prioritise cultural immersion, favouring activities like food tours, cooking classes, and visiting traditional markets. Many also opt for multi-day itineraries that include urban exploration, rural excursions, and relaxation. Vietnam’s affordability and its colonial ties make it a preferred destination for French tourists.
Direct flights between Paris and Vietnam, operated by Vietnam Airlines and Air France, facilitate travel, while connecting routes via hubs such as Doha and Dubai provide additional options. The sharp decline in December may be attributed to seasonal shifts or competition from other destinations during the European winter holiday period.
Despite the monthly drop, France remains one of Vietnam’s key European markets, with continued efforts to promote its unique cultural and natural attractions expected to drive further growth.
