Energy: Vietnam’s leading coal suppliers in June 2025

Vietnam’s imports of coal saw a significant decline in June 2025, reaching $645,463,992, a -5.84 percent decrease compared to May 2025 according to data from Vietnam’s General Department of Customs.

Despite the overall month-on-month decrease, several countries remain vital suppliers to Vietnam, with the year-to-date total for this product category standing at $3,849,410,830.

In June 2025, the top five sources by dollar value for Vietnam’s imports of coal were:

Australia

Australia emerged as the top supplier in June, with import values reaching $270,256,669.

This represents a 1.53 percent month-on-month change from May.

Australia’s year-to-date total for these imports stands at $1,492,998,316, accounting for 38.79 percent of all YTD imports in this category.

Indonesia

Indonesia followed as the second-largest source, with June imports valued at $202,020,213.

This figure indicates a -8.51 percent month-on-month change.

Indonesia’s year-to-date total for these imports is $1,225,603,102, representing 31.84 percent of the total YTD imports for this product category.

Russia

Russia secured the third position in June with imports totaling $58,298,655.

This indicates a -20.99 percent month-on-month change.

Its year-to-date contribution to Vietnam’s imports of coal is $418,880,375, making up 10.88 percent of the total YTD imports.

Laos

Laos contributed $22,053,613 worth of coal in June.

Notably, Laos experienced a significant positive month-on-month growth of 20.53 percent.

Laos’s year-to-date total for these imports is $107,977,363, accounting for 2.81 percent of the total YTD imports for this product.

China

China rounded out the top five import sources with $7,344,132 in June imports.

This country showed strong positive momentum with a 39.20 percent month-on-month increase.

China’s year-to-date total for these imports is $41,555,333, representing 1.08 percent of the total YTD imports for this category.
