Tourism: Vietnam records 1.68 million foreign visitors in August

Vietnam welcomed 1,684,972 international arrivals in August, an increase of 7.8 percent from July, bringing the year-to-date total to 13.91 million, 16.5 percent higher than the same period in 2024, according to the latest data from Vietnam’s National Statistics Office.

Arrivals from Asia reached 1.36 million, led by China with 414,247 visitors, up 5.9 percent month-on-month and 34.9 percent higher year-to-date, and Korea with 384,167 visitors, up 21.2 percent compared with July though still 8.8 percent lower year-to-date.

Growth was also recorded from Southeast Asian neighbours including Malaysia, Thailand and the Philippines, while arrivals from Laos fell sharply.

Europe contributed 214,925 visitors in August, up 12.0 percent month-on-month and 44.1 percent year-to-date.

Russia was the standout, with a 217.3 percent year-to-date increase, while Italy, Germany and Spain also recorded strong gains.

In contrast, the Americas sent 65,452 visitors, down 25.0 percent from July.

The United States accounted for most of this decline with arrivals falling 29.4 percent to 51,166, leaving year-to-date numbers flat.

Oceania also weakened, with arrivals falling 27.1 percent to 38,823, largely due to a 28.1 percent decline in visitors from Australia.

Asia continues to dominate Vietnam’s inbound tourism, accounting for more than four-fifths of arrivals, while Europe is providing strong momentum, particularly from Russia and Italy.

However, markets in the United States and Oceania remain volatile, highlighting uneven recovery across long-haul destinations.
