Vietnam’s imports of computers, electrical products, spare-parts and components thereof reached an astounding US$13.33 billion in May 2025, according to figures released by Vietnam’s General Department of Customs. This represents a substantial increase of 18.61 percent compared to April, bringing the year-to-date (YTD) import value to US$56.19 billion.
China solidifies its position as the leading supplier:
China remains the primary source for these imports, with a May value of US$4.74 billion. This signifies an 18.14 percent increase from April and accounts for a dominant 34.01 percent of the year-to-date imports.
South Korea and Taiwan show strong growth:
South Korea’s imports rose by 17.30 percent to US$3.27 billion in May, securing its place as the second-largest supplier, accounting for 26.00 percent of YTD imports. Taiwan also demonstrated robust growth, with imports increasing by 23.10 percent to US$2.11 billion, contributing 14.91 percent to the YTD total.
Noteworthy increases from other key markets:
Several other countries exhibited significant month-on-month growth in May:
- Belgium saw a remarkable surge of 781.06 percent, though from a low base.
- Czech Republic recorded a substantial increase of 245.07 percent.
- Ireland‘s imports jumped by 87.19 percent.
- Israel experienced a strong rise of 71.59 percent.
- UK imports grew by 60.09 percent.
- Denmark saw an increase of 59.16 percent.
- Malaysia registered a solid 39.66 percent growth.
Significant decreases in imports:
Conversely, some markets experienced notable declines in imports in May:
- India saw the largest drop of 68.17 percent.
- Netherlands imports decreased by 61.72 percent.
- Switzerland fell by 30.08 percent.
- Poland experienced a decline of 27.03 percent.
- Indonesia saw a decrease of 23.23 percent.
Overall, the robust growth in May underscores Vietnam’s increasing reliance on imported computers, electrical products, spare-parts, and components to fuel its manufacturing and technological sectors, with strong contributions from East Asian powerhouses.
