Vietnam electricity industry news
Electric car power supply
The Ministry of Industry and Trade said it is preparing for growing electricity demand as a result of Hanoi tightening emissions from July 2026.
The ministry estimates one million electric cars by 2030 would consume three to four billion kilowatt hours annually, equal to one to 1.5 percent of total electricity output.
Officials said local grid upgrades, additional substations, and revised urban planning would be required to prevent localised overloads as electric vehicle use expands.
Hoa Phat warns steel power shortages
Hoa Phat Group has proposed four large solar power projects in Quang Ngai to secure electricity supply for its steel operations at the Dung Quat Economic Zone.
Hoa Phat said electricity demand at Dung Quat is rising sharply as new steel capacity comes online, raising risks of local power shortages and grid strain, the article says.
