Education costs in Vietnam fell by 0.04 percent in January, driven by a 0.05 percent decrease in education services, according to the Vietnam’s Consumer Price Index.
The decline was primarily attributed to tuition support policies implemented in Ho Chi Minh City, which contributed to lower education expenses.
Education costs in Vietnam vary widely depending on the type of institution, the level of education, and whether the school is public or private. In general, public education in Vietnam is quite affordable, while international and private schools can be significantly more expensive.
For public primary and secondary education in Vietnam, tuition fees are generally low or even free, as the government heavily subsidizes education. However, there are some additional costs that parents may incur, such as fees for textbooks, uniforms, extracurricular activities, and other school supplies. On average, these additional costs can range from VND 1,000,000 to VND 3,000,000 (about US$40 to US$120) per year.
For private schools, particularly those in larger cities like Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, fees are considerably higher. Private schools often offer bilingual education or a more focused curriculum, and fees can range from VND 20,000,000 to VND 60,000,000 (US$800 to US$2,400) per year, depending on the level and school.
The cost of higher education in Vietnam also depends on whether students attend public or private institutions. Public universities in Vietnam are generally more affordable for domestic students, with annual tuition fees typically ranging from VND 4,000,000 to VND 10,000,000 (US$160 to US$400). For foreign students, fees may be higher, generally ranging from VND 10,000,000 to VND 30,000,000 (US$400 to US$1,200) per year, depending on the program and the university.
Private universities and international institutions in Vietnam tend to have higher tuition fees. Fees at private universities can range from VND 20,000,000 to VND 80,000,000 (US$800 to US$3,200) per year, while international schools that follow foreign curriculums (such as those offering American or British education) can have annual tuition fees of VND 100,000,000 to VND 500,000,000 (US$4,000 to US$20,000).
For language courses, particularly English language programs, the cost varies depending on the institution and the length of the course. English courses for adults or students seeking to improve their language skills can range from VND 1,000,000 to VND 10,000,000 (US$40 to US$400) per course. Vocational education and training programs, which are growing in popularity in Vietnam, also tend to be more affordable, with tuition fees ranging from VND 5,000,000 to VND 20,000,000 (US$200 to US$800) per year, depending on the type of program and institution.
