Doubts raised over Vietnam’s ability to generated power from LNG next year

Despite a brand new LNG terminal in southern Vietnam, it’s unlikely Vietnam will be able to use LNG imported until 2025, The Investor is reporting. Vietnam currently has no LNG fired power plants to speak of and the first LNG plant is not expected to come online until the end of next year.

Note that gas is a key pillar of the Power Development Plan 8 and is expected to be responsible for 15 percent of Vietnam’s electricity supply by 2030. It’s not the only problem facing the sector either–See: VN’s natural gas dreams stall on contract delays
