Vietnam’s communication equipment manufacturing industry increased by 75.7 percent in January compared to the 2019 baseline, according to Vietnam’s Industrial Production Index. However, this was lower than December 2024, when output stood at 96.6 percent above 2019 levels.
Month-on-month, production fell by 7.7 percent in January compared to December. Despite this, the sector recorded a 5.9 percent year-on-year increase from January 2024, indicating steady annual growth.
Of note, communication equipment manufacturing in Vietnam has grown rapidly, driven by rising global demand, foreign investment, and the country’s role as a key electronics production hub. The industry includes the production of mobile phones, networking devices, radio equipment, and other telecommunications hardware.
Vietnam has attracted major global companies such as Samsung, LG, and Foxconn, which have set up large-scale manufacturing facilities in the country. Samsung, in particular, produces a significant share of its mobile phones and communication devices in Vietnam, making the country one of the world’s largest exporters of smartphones and related equipment.
Local manufacturers are also expanding their presence in the industry, producing networking devices, fiber optic cables, and communication accessories. Companies such as Viettel and VinGroup have invested in developing domestic communication technologies, including 5G equipment and military-grade communication devices.
Despite strong growth, the industry faces challenges such as reliance on imported high-tech components, competition from other manufacturing hubs, and the need for more skilled workers in advanced electronics production. However, government support and trade agreements have helped Vietnam strengthen its position in global communication equipment manufacturing.
Vietnam’s communication equipment manufacturing sector is expanding, supported by strong foreign investment and growing domestic capabilities. As global demand for telecom and networking devices increases, the country is well-positioned to play an even greater role in the global supply chain.
