Vietnam welcomed 13,885 tourists from Canada in December, a decrease of 3,697 visitors compared to November, reflecting a month-on-month decline of 21.03 percent, according to Vietnam’s General Department of Tourism. In 2024, Canadian arrivals reached 152,527, representing a 14.3 percent increase compared to the previous year.
Canadian travellers are drawn to Vietnam for its rich culture, scenic landscapes, and warm hospitality. Popular destinations include Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, and Hoi An, offering cultural and historical attractions, as well as natural wonders like Halong Bay and Phu Quoc. Many Canadians also enjoy Vietnam’s affordable culinary experiences, with a focus on street food and local markets.
Canadian tourists often favour long-haul, multi-week vacations, allowing them to explore multiple regions within Vietnam. Activities such as eco-tourism, trekking in Sapa, and beach relaxation in Da Nang and Nha Trang are popular. Increasingly, younger Canadians are seeking unique experiences, such as motorbike tours and community-based tourism.
The decline in December may be attributed to seasonal travel patterns or competition from other winter destinations. However, direct flights between Vancouver and Ho Chi Minh City, operated by Vietnam Airlines, and connecting flights through hubs like Seoul and Tokyo ensure accessibility for Canadian visitors.
With steady annual growth, Vietnam remains an appealing destination for Canadian tourists, supported by ongoing promotional efforts and improvements in tourism infrastructure.
