Belgian tourist arrivals to Vietnam drop by 29.51 percent in December despite steady annual growth

Vietnam welcomed 2,652 tourists from Belgium in December, a decline of 1,110 visitors compared to November, representing a month-on-month drop of 29.51 percent, according to Vietnam’s General Department of Tourism. However, Belgian arrivals reached 31,730 in 2024, showing a 20.4 percent increase compared to the previous year.

Belgian tourists are drawn to Vietnam’s cultural heritage and natural beauty. Popular destinations include Hanoi, Hoi An, and Ho Chi Minh City, which offer a mix of history, local traditions, and bustling city life. Natural wonders like Halong Bay and Phu Quoc are also popular for their scenic landscapes and leisure opportunities.

Belgian travellers often seek immersive experiences such as food tours, eco-tourism, and rural excursions. They appreciate Vietnam’s affordability and unique cuisine, with an emphasis on local street food and fresh seafood. Longer trips are common, allowing tourists to explore multiple regions.

While there are no direct flights between Belgium and Vietnam, carriers such as Qatar Airways, Emirates, and Turkish Airlines provide connecting routes via hubs like Doha and Dubai. The sharp December decline may reflect seasonal variations and competition from other holiday destinations during the European winter season.

Despite the monthly drop, Belgium remains an important European market for Vietnam, with steady year-on-year growth supported by enhanced connectivity and promotional efforts targeting Western Europe.
