Vietnam’s imports of motor vehicle parts and accessories reached US$471.82 million in May 2025, according to figures released by Vietnam’s General Department of Customs. This represents a significant increase of 8.70 percent compared to April, bringing the year-to-date (YTD) import value to US$2.17 billion.
China remains the dominant supplier with strong growth:
China continued to be the primary source for these imports, with a May value of US$171.81 million. This signifies a strong increase of 8.46 percent from April and accounts for a commanding 36.01 percent of the total year-to-date imports.
South Korea and Indonesia show significant surges:
Imports from South Korea surged by 16.89 percent to US$87.54 million in May, solidifying its position as the second-largest supplier. Indonesia also experienced a substantial increase of 42.37 percent, with imports valued at US$29.97 million.
USA, Spain, and Turkey record extraordinary month-on-month growth:
Several countries exhibited remarkable month-on-month growth in May, often from lower bases:
- USA recorded an astonishing surge of 193.23 percent, reaching US$6.94 million.
- Spain imports jumped by 204.40 percent.
- Turkey imports surged by 73.05 percent.
- Malaysia imports grew by 43.04 percent.
- Netherlands also showed a strong increase of 27.64 percent.
- Belarus emerged as a new supplier in May after having no imports in April.
Notable declines in imports:
Conversely, some markets faced substantial declines in imports in May:
- Russia saw a drastic drop of 91.95 percent.
- Germany imports decreased by 48.58 percent.
- India imports fell by 7.79 percent.
- Philippines experienced a minor decrease of 6.77 percent.
- Brazil recorded no imports in May after having imports in April.
- The “Other” category also saw a decline of 9.28 percent.
The overall strong increase in May’s imports of motor vehicle parts and accessories indicates a robust and growing demand in Vietnam’s automotive sector, with China at the forefront and significant contributions from diverse global suppliers.
