Vietnam’s imports from Singapore dropped 19.53 percent in August to US$417 million, bringing the year-to-date total to US$4 billion, according to Vietnam’s General Department of Customs.
Petroleum products led the inflow at US$132 million, though they plunged 34.82 percent from July, while other petroleum products also fell 13.29 percent to US$44 million.
Imports of computers and electrical goods were stable at US$81 million, accounting for over 12 percent of the monthly total.
Machinery rose 7.80 percent to US$27 million, while plastics, chemicals, and edible preparations all declined sharply.
Essential oils and cosmetics eased slightly to US$30 million, maintaining their position as a steady inflow.
Year-to-date, petroleum-related imports dominate, making up more than 52 percent of Vietnam’s purchases from Singapore.
Electrical products, machinery, and plastics serve as important supplementary categories, while smaller segments such as food preparations, milk, and pharmaceuticals highlight Singapore’s role as a diversified supplier.
Vietnam–Singapore trade is a cornerstone of ASEAN economic ties, marked by strong goods exchange and deep investment links.
Vietnam exports machinery, electronics, agricultural products, and consumer goods to Singapore, while importing refined petroleum, chemicals, machinery, and high-value services.
Singapore is also one of Vietnam’s largest foreign investors, with projects spanning real estate, finance, logistics, and industrial parks under the Vietnam–Singapore Industrial Park (VSIP) model.
Bilateral trade is supported by the ASEAN Free Trade Area and the CPTPP, which reduce tariffs and streamline access.
