Vietnam’s exports to Norway fell sharply to US$11.79 million in August 2025, down 61.2 percent from US$30.42 million in July, according to Vietnam’s General Department of Customs.
Year-to-date exports reached US$120.12 million.
Fishery exports rose 50.3 percent to US$1.92 million, while machinery doubled to US$1.50 million.
Cashew nuts slipped 9.9 percent to US$1.11 million, and cameras dropped 38.5 percent to US$966,000.
Footwear decreased 52.6 percent to US$896,000, textiles contracted 66.8 percent to US$739,000, and handbags declined 14.9 percent to US$432,000.
Transport parts, a large item in July, collapsed by 97.3 percent to US$276,000 in August.
Plastic products were steady at US$359,000, while fruits and vegetables fell nearly half to US$329,000.
The downturn was broad-based, though fishery products and machinery provided some support.
Norway remains a niche but diversified market for Vietnam, spanning seafood, footwear, textiles, and manufactured goods.
Vietnam – Norway trade has grown in recent years, though from a relatively modest base, driven by complementary strengths in seafood, energy, and industrial goods.
Vietnam mainly exports seafood, textiles, furniture, and consumer goods to Norway, while importing seafood, machinery, chemicals, and high-tech equipment.
Bilateral exchanges have been supported by Norway’s interest in Vietnam as a manufacturing hub and emerging energy partner, particularly in renewables and offshore industries, where Norwegian firms bring advanced expertise.
Cooperation has also expanded through joint projects in aquaculture, maritime services, and environmental technologies.
While logistical distance and limited market awareness remain challenges, the trade relationship reflects a steady deepening of economic ties and opportunities for further growth, especially in sustainable industries and technology transfer.
