Agriculture: Vietnam fertilizer imports fall 1.7 percent in August, China and Russia key sources

Vietnam imported US$222.28 million of fertilizers in August, down 8.36 percent from July, according to Vietnam’s General Department of Customs.

Year-to-date imports reached US$1.51 billion.

China was the largest supplier at US$139.50 million in August, or 45.02 percent of the year-to-date total. Russia followed with US$22.97 million, equal to 17.65 percent of the year-to-date value.

Other notable suppliers included Laos at US$9.07 million, Canada at US$8.93 million, and South Korea at US$2.69 million.

Imports from several smaller markets such as Indonesia, Malaysia, and Thailand dropped sharply month-on-month, while Canada and Laos recorded notable growth.

The data highlights Vietnam’s reliance on Chinese fertilizer, with nearly half of total imports sourced from China.

Russia and Laos provide important supplementary volumes, while smaller contributions from Canada, South Korea, and Japan round out supply diversity.
